Despite these comments I have about the book, it was enjoyable and worth the read. They even mentioned the name of a character from Star Trek without changing that, so I don't see why they changed the name of the show. On the note of Star Wars, I was scratching my head about why the author decided to change the name of Star Wars to something like Galactic Battle and Star Trek to some other fake name. Maybe the term was mentioned near the end of My Ride is a Bitch, and I just didn't like the idea of an empire being formed. The Many Worlds of T S Paul (2019) Chapbooks. I don't remember the term Etheric Empire appearing in the books before this one, so I was surprised to see it. Instead, it is just some sort of elite school within the Etheric Empire. Basically, an academy for weres, vampires, and others who may have some link to the etheric. When I heard the name, I immediately thought it was going to be some sort of school where people learned how to use abilities based in the etheric realm. The other thing that I was annoyed with was the name Etheric Academy. Paul's interpretation of Bobcat based one what Michael Anderle had previously written. He didn't seem like a complete moron before this book though. He just seems way less intelligent than he was before, and he didn't seem all that intelligent before. First Bobcat seems to have taken stupid pills in this book. I enjoyed this book but was a bit frustrated at some things.

Gurney has published eight books, including two artist’s how-to guides on technique. Paleontologists have praised the Rhinebeck artist for his accuracy: One scholar noted his knack for “giving the dinosaurs expressions I find believable…this has probably affected my own view of them.”īut Dinotopia is just one facet of a rich and successful career. I liked this better than Head Full of Ghosts, which seems to get all of the attention. The Bram Stoker Award-winning author of A Head Full of Ghosts adds an inventive twist to the home invasion horror story in a heart-palpitating novel of psychological suspense that recalls Stephen King’s Misery, Ruth Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood, and Jack Ketchum’s cult hit The Girl Next Door. I got over it eventually but it took about an hour to stop noticing it. It took some time to feel like I understood the difference between the two protagonists (I struggled to keep their attitudes and actions separate and distinct) but I think this had to do with the narrator’s performance, which to me, was a bit like having a GPS tell me the story. This story is pretty harrowing but it’s a poignant analysis of the nature of faith and our belief in the impact we have on our futures, our world and each other. I posit White Fang’s reading as a Bildungsroman as the normative thesis, opposed by an allegorical interpretation of social atavism as its antithesis. After establishing these discourses, I apply my own analysis using a Hegelian thesis-antithesis-synthesis dialectic. To situate both readings, I explore Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s ideas of human cultivation through a Social Contract, along with Henry David Thoreau’s and Sigmund Freud’s views on the merits of a (partial) return to nature. Besides the novel’s traditional Bildungsroman reading advocating social cultivation, this meta-dialectic enables a counter interpretation that promotes a reconnection with wildness. This dialectic is not limited to the relation of the companion novels but, I argue, is present within White Fang as well. Thus, there is a dialectic at work between the two novels The Call of the Wild postulates a progression from civilisation towards wildness, which is opposed in White Fang. Its companion novel and thematic mirror, White Fang, is often regarded as the less significant of the two, veiled under the well-loved tale of a wolf that must endure hardships to be able to devote himself to his loving master. Jack London’s name is usually associated with The Call of the Wild, the atavistic tale of a domesticated dog who gradually regains his wolfish instincts.
